RPGHub Presents: Friday Night Game Night

Fridays are glorious days. It’s the end of a long and hard work week, your needing to relax and what better way to relax then with your buddies around the table playing a game. This is a bi-weekly event that we have started and will hopefully bring about some great stories for the RPGHub community.

Friday Night Game Night is hosted at my place since this night is usually a rough since it’s after a long work week not to mention putting Mini Carl to bed from his exhausting week playing with hyperactive children. We try to play for as long as we can but one thing can always be guaranteed and that’s fun.

Game Played: Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Wow was it raining. The evening started out a lovely dinner with Mrs S and feeding Mini Carl but despite the long work week I was anxious since this would be our inaugural Friday Night Game Night. But that just wasn’t all as this would be the night we tried Descent: Journeys in the Dark for the first time. Suffice it to say I was nervous. Holding a game night with a new boardgame can be daunting. People are tired and explaining rules especially how Fantasy Flights Rules are, can be quite rough on the brain. Also I find when running a boardgame you have to really have most of your knowledge down otherwise things can get chaotic.

However, it went more the well. Neil came by first and we discussed the rules and got things kicked off. John came shortly after and did the same with him. Then, it began. We journeyed Into the Dark and had a blast. If you want to know how the game plays in detail, check out Neils review of Descent:  Journeys in the Dark. I was the overlord for this game and it played a lot like Milton Bradleys Hero Quest, but much better. There was just more flavor and more crunch. Seeing the board there however reminded me of those good old days.

The board itself seemed small when you looked at it but there was just soo much to do. It was just pure action and exploration. I had meant to take pictures of our gameplay, however I totally forgot. I will be sure to do so next time so we can add them to Neils review and here as well.
